Known as the "sustenance of the gods," ambrosia has the power to transform any mortal into a god. Xena and Gabrielle team up with unlikely accomplices -- Thersites, a desperate assassin, and Petracles, a ruthless warlord (and Xena's former lover) - to find the Lost Treasure of the Sumerians. Within the dark caverns of Mount Poulis, the foursome battle to overcome greed and a desperate desire for immortality. Thersites and Petracles hate each other, and Gabrielle is attracted to Petracles, which worries Xena. She threatens to kill him if he hurts her friend, but he protests that he's a changed man. Once they have found the treasure, Thersites turns on the group and mortally wounds Petracles; in return, he kills Thersites and dies in Xena's arms, confessing that he never stopped loving her.
